چکیده
Three randomised controlled trials have shown a significant reduction in peri-operative mortality when comparing endovascular aneurysm repair (EVAR) with standard open surgery (1.7% v. 4.7% in the EVAR Trial 1; 1.2 v. 4.6% in the Dream Trial; 0.5 v. 3% in the OVER Trial1-3). EVAR has therefore become the standard of care in many centres. There are, however, patients who require EVAR because open surgery poses an unacceptably high risk to them, but unfavourable anatomy precludes the use of the standard bifurcated stentgraft (BFG). It is estimated that approximately 50% of patients are not ideal candidates for EVAR because of anatomical constraints.4 The aorto-uni-iliac (AUI) configuration with a femoro-femoral bypass graft (FFBP) appears to be a good alternative in these patients, and can improve patient eligibility by a further 20%.4-8 There are still limited data available for long-term follow-up of these patients (>60 months). In this study we look at the feasibility, efficacy and durability of AUI with FFBP in this group of patients over the midto long term.

The causes of prostate cancer are not well understood, but certain risk factors have been identified, namely age, ethnic group, family history, hormone levels and environmental inf luences. The role of androgens in the pathogenesis of prostate cancer remains unclear, but is thought to be pivotal. While androgenic stimulation is needed for prostate development and growth, serum testosterone leve...
متن کاملTemporary vascular shunting in vascular trauma: a 10-year review from a civilian trauma centre.
BACKGROUND Temporary intravascular shunts (TIVSs) can replace immediate definitive repair as a damage control procedure in vascular trauma. We evaluated their use in an urban trauma centre with a high incidence of penetrating trauma. METHOD A retrospective chart review of all patients treated with a TIVS in a single centre between January 2000 and December 2009. RESULTS Thirty-five TIVSs we...
متن کاملIntra-orbital knife blade foreign body: a case series.
OBJECTIVE To describe cases of intra-orbital knife blade foreign body following stabs to the orbit, together with a novel technique for removal. METHODS Retrospective case series of 3 patients. RESULTS All 3 patients had knife blades embedded in the orbit as a result of assault. The blades assumed the same direction within the orbit with varying degrees of depth, one causing serious vascula...
